History: My name is Jaehee and I want to tell you how UNC-CH Lens began. Around November of 2011, I bought my first Nikon D90. I said to myself, “If I am going to spend this much money on one camera and lens, it better be worth it!” Today, that worth is measured by our service to those around us. Why not use our talents for something meaningful? Why not learn more about our passions while learning about our community? After much thought and prayer, UNC-CH Lens was born. In the beginning, there were only four: myself, Matthew Lee, Danbi Yi, and Nicholas Sandford. Now, UNC-CH Lens is a university recognized team of ten talented photographers and three creative writers in addition to the five executive leaders.
Here’s how UNC-CH Lens works: High-quality portraits of UNC students are taken by a Lens photographer for a donation. 100% of the donation is used to provide similar services to local families who may not have access to high quality photoshoots; they receive free prints, frames, albums, etc. By doing this, we want to provide every community member with the ability to preserve beautiful memories. UNC-CH Lens is where passion meets service.
